Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to head next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them little choice but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
